Move With the Water
When you're trying to catch bass at the Lake off your dock, a general rule of thumb is that the bass will move with the water levels. Spring typically brings frequent rain showers which can cause a fluctuation in water levels. Generally, the bass will rise with the water levels. With higher water levels, it's not a bad idea to target the top of the water. You'd be surprised how shallow the bass will live.Create a Fish Habitat
If you want to attract fish to your dock, a great way to do so is to provide a home for them! Placing trees near your dock will provide a good place for spawning habitat and especially for bass. Creating a habitat also helps to protect the fish from predators which is enticing for the fish. It's a little late now but a great way to create a fish habitat at the Lake of the Ozarks is to drop your live Christmas tree in the lake after the holidays are over. Keep this tip in mind for next year!Don't Overlook Gangways
It's easy to be drawn to the deeper parts of the water because many fish are drawn to shady areas. When you fish off your gangway, you can get into the shallower parts and even capture part of the shoreline to see if the fish are there. Largemouth bass and crappie love to spawn underneath docks and walkways because it provides protection from predators. Now that spring is here, it’s an excellent time to take advantage of some great fishing!
