Recent Rip Rip Project Success Story by Rock Works!

Summertime and boating is quickly approaching and our construction company at the Lake of the Ozarks is ramping up with lots of projects. We have been installing a lot of rip rap at the Lake of the Ozarks to hep protect the shorelines of many lakefront property owners. With the water being down, now is an excellent time to take a look at your sea wall construction to see if the water and waves is undermining the integrity of the wall. Read on to learn more about rip rap and recent project success story!

What is Rip Rap ?

Rip rap is rock of various sizes that is placed at the base of seawalls. Its purpose is to absorb and dampen the impact energy of waves before they reach the seawall, reduce rebound waves toward your dock, provide bank stabilization, and lessen shoreline erosion. This keeps the stability of seawalls intact and protects your investment. Rip rap is not only important to the Lake of the Ozarks ecosystem, it is a necessity for both commercial and residential property owners. Rock Works also offers barge services and wave break installation around the Lake of the Ozarks area.

Recent Rip Rap Project

Below are a few pictures of a recent project we did with Clary Concrete. This project consisted of replacing a 50’ section of old stone wall that had failed with a new 8” tall concrete retaining wall.

This is another testament of why installing rip rap in front of your seawall will protect it from getting undermined and eventually failing like this one did.

We transported Clary Concrete’s equipment via our barge to the customers property and did the excavation for Clary so they could pour the footing and wall.

After they were completed with pouring the retaining wall we backfilled the wall with 75 ton of clean rock and hauled off the excess dirt and returned their equipment to them.

During the project the owner asked if we could do something to clean up the hillside above the wall which wasn’t in the original scope of work with Clary. We provided him a proposal to grade the embankment and install 75 tons of 3” – 6” clean landscape rock as depicted in the pictures. After the completion of the landscape rock above the wall we installed 90 ton of rip rap in front of the seawall. This project was completed in 2 working days.

With the water being down, now is a great time to install rip rap at the Lake of the Ozarks. Protecting your shoreline and sea wall construction from erosion is important, and rip rap is an excellent way to protect your property.
