Spring Dock Inspection

Spring is on its way and now is the time to start looking at your dock. If you didn't inspect your dock last fall it's important to take the time to ensure it's ready for spring. Winter can cause damage to your dock from the fluctuation temperatures and feezing and unthawing. Walkways 

If your dock walkways are damaged it can pose a big danger to those who use it. Make sure that there are no material obstructions that would make walking unsafe. Ensure that your walkways are structurally sound and there is not an excessive amount of movement.


Handrails

It's crucial that your handrails are not damaged -especially if you have a commercial dock at the Lake of the Ozarks. Handrails should be structurally sound to ensure safety.

Anchorage 

It's important that your dock is secure. It's not uncommon to see a dock floating in the middle of the lake because it became unattached. Making sure that you check that your dock is properly anchored will prevent your dock from floating away. Make sure that your cables are not frayed or worn, there are no trees branches attached, and your hardware is intact.

Decking 

It's important to ensure that your dock decking is in great shape. Depending on what material you have for your decking will determine what you should be looking for. If your decking material is made from wood, make sure that your lumber is free of splints, decay, and nails or screw are not coming out. For concrete decking, make sure that you don't have broken dock pads. If you have any broken dock pads, make sure to replace those! Flotation 

Make sure that your dock floats are still supporting your dock and there is no risk of sinking.


Permit 

You are required to have a permit for your dock at the Lake of the Ozarks. As part of your dock inspection, you should ensure that your dock permit is up to date.

Electrical 

It's crucial to ensure that your dock's electrical system is up to code. Ameren Electric requires you to do a dock inspection every year. Your local fire department will come out and do it for you or if you are not within the mile restriction you will need to have an electrician inspect it for you.
